Chic Filet and Japan Relief

Monday was a full day. I got out on my bike for the first time in over a month–feeling those 40 miles with 4000 ft of elevation gain today! Later Monday evening Mary Jo and I headed out to the Valencia Chic Filet for the fundraiser for Japan relief. James, the manager, was nice and helpful, and offered 15% of all proceeds that night. The place was packed all evening and I think that was a substantial contribution. In addition, many folks stopped by the A2 booth to look at photos and make individual donations while talking with Mary Jo and yours truly.

Mary Jo talked with a lot of concerned folks and gave out plush cows

An added treat was the time I was able to spend with my old friends Pastor Dave and Heather Krogstad. They live near the Chic Filet and dutifully bought dinner out to help with Japan relief. Dave and I used to play 1 on 1 basketball to 120 to sharpen our moves. He’s discipling 100 or 1000 folks that want to grow closer to Jesus but it was so good that he took some time out of his busy schedule to “catch up.” His son Mark on the left is on fire for missions and might make it over to Japan sometime after a stint with Dream Center in inner city L.A.

Mary Jo and I are nailing down the dates for our May trip to Japan. MJ will work with a consultant from Strength Finders to intro the tool to A2 missionaries at a gathering in Osaka. With the drastically changed field in Japan and years of recovery ahead, it’s timely to find out how we each serve best in order to develop a most effective strategic approach to relief and new church development in the Land of the Rising Son.
