Finishing Well in Japan

Seasons of Life

Some people are wondering when in the world I’m going to retire.  Solomon wrote, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven…”  Right now I have a sense that I am being called to serve for one more four-year term on the field in Japan from 2014 to 2018.   Since my arrival in 1975, I’ve experienced a lot of the seasons of life portrayed in Ecclesiastes chapter three.  However, more than ever I’m anticipating a new season of not only planting, but a season of productive harvesting.

Japan has long been known as one of the hardest places on earth for the seed of the gospel. D has worked faithfully there for nearly 40 years and many Japanese have come to know Jesus through her efforts. Now since the March 11, 2011 triple disaster in NE Japan, God is working in some new ways there. We are all sensing this is a new day where God is pulling out the stops to save the maximum number of Japanese. Our friend D is sensing that God has one more term of 4 years for her to serve in Japan. Far from discouraged, she is sensing that this could be the most fruitful 4 years of all her time in this beautiful land that needs Jesus so desperately.
