God’s Unchanging Agenda 12 of 32

Today we are commemorating Jesus in the tomb. Day before yesterday, he died the most gruesome death because as Lecrae sings, “If Jesus wasn’t executed there’s no celebrating.” To take my narcissistic, hedonistic heart and not only make it clean but to write his perfect law on it, Jesus the Perfect Lamb of God had to shed his lifeblood in my stead. Faith is what seals the deal and starts the greatest adventure of a lifetime.

As I watch people in the parking lot at the supermarket, I see many who are engrossed in their phone–even as they walk through a crowded parking lot! It’s just like the group Tears for Fears sings, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” In our heart of hearts, each one of us wants to “have it my way.” We want to rule the world–our world! But really this is just bondage. We are temporary vapors, but God sent his Son to release us from futility and give us the greatest purpose possible–Repping him wherever he sends us.

Today’s passage is a picture of Jesus–about 1000 years before he was born in a stable. His life looked like a tragedy–if he didn’t rise from the dead. But Jesus, just like Joseph in this passage, says, “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”

12) SCRIPTURE Gen. 50:15-21 “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive” (vs. 20).

REFLECT Joseph provided for his brothers and their little ones even though his brothers had sold him into slavery.

Let’s pray for each other that we can forgive those who wrong us, and trust that God will use others’ evil toward us for ultimate good as we trust Him.

REFLECT Failure to forgive from the heart those who have wronged us is a common cause of failure in family and ministry (Matt. 18:33-35). Can we take a moment for silent reflection and then forgive anyone in need of it? This is very important. Find someone to pray with.
